Laura enjoys her reporting career, reading, arranging flowers, playing cards and games, ballroom dancing, decorating and entertaining at home.  She is married to Tony Nichols and has two children, Anna and Luke.  When Laura is not reporting depositions, you can usually find her enjoying activities with Anna, attending performances of Luke, drinking a cappuccino with Tony, reading a book, working out, walking with the family dog, or surfing the net.

Laura Nichols joined the firm in 1977 and has been a partner and shareholder since 1987. Her expertise includes an extensive background in reporting cases involving securities fraud, medical malpractice, environmental torts, product liability, contracts, labor relations and discrimination litigation. Securities reporting and realtime internet streaming of depositions are areas of reporting in which she specializes.

Laura is a Registered Professional Reporter, Certified Realtime Reporter, Certified Manager of Reporting Services, Certified Livenote Reporter, and a member of the National Court Reporters Association.  She is also a Certified Court Reporter and a member of the Alabama Court Reporters Association.  She was appointed to serve on the Alabama Board of Court Reporting, a state board enacted to insure quality of court reporting in Alabama.  Laura is a frequent speaker at continuing education events.

Reporting experience in a variety of areas and locations has kept Laura’s career interesting and fun – a women’s lib convention in the ‘70s, an Alabama governor’s deposition, a United States Supreme Court justice’s deposition, a deposition in a pig slaughter house, a deposition taken while sitting on a car bumper, securities fraud depositions in England and Bermuda – even a deposition in Montreal during an ice storm.  Subject matters have included car bombings, sexual harassment, medical malpractice, transgender modification, attempted murder, AIDS, insanity, abortion rights, infidelity . . . definitely some of life’s most controversial topics!
